Engage your students in studying the history of the United States of America!

Since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the drafting of the Constitution in 1787, major social and political events have shaped America into the nation it is today. From the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression that followed, to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950-60s, the events that have shaped America are numerous. For this assignment, students will choose a historical event to study and create a project to showcase their learning. Have fun!

This resource guides students through the process of conducting their own research report on a historical event. First, students learn how to properly conduct research without plagiarizing their sources. After researching, students choose how to showcase their learning by creating a poster board, presentation board, PowerPoint, or dodecahedron (Dodecahedron Instructions and templates are included). Afterwards, students present their learning to the class and self-assess their achievement (Teacher Rubric also included).

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students are challenged to actively learn about a subject for an extended period of time. It is a form of active learning or inquiry-based learning. Project-Based Learning is in contrast to paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that presents established facts.
