Babylonian and Egyptian cave drawings of competitive wrestlers suggest that sports have been a part of human civilization for 15,000 years. In 1860, American boxer, John L. Sullivan was the first to capture the imagination of the masses to become the first modern day sports icon. From incredible finesse and precision of soccer star, Lionel Messi, to the grit and talent of tennis phenom, Serena Williams, the physical feats that sports stars exhibit is truly remarkable. For this assignment, you will choose a sports star to study and create a project to showcase your learning. Have fun!

This resource guides students through conducting their own research report on a famous athlete (30+ topics are listed). After choosing an athlete to focus on, students are asked to conduct research using the Internet and books while following criteria. Next, students are asked to share their learning by creating a poster board, presentation board, power point presentation, or dodecahedron (Instructions & Pentagon Template included). Artwork may also be created to further display learning. Finally, students present their work to the class.

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students are challenged to actively learn about a subject for an extended period of time. It is a form of active learning or inquiry-based learning. Project-Based Learning is in contrast to paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that presents established facts. Please be aware of what you are purchasing.
