Teach students how to assess their understanding of a concept, topic or idea!
A mind map is a visual representation of a concept, topic or idea. Mind maps help people organize, understand, and make decisions about information. They are typically created around a main idea in the middle of a blank page. The main idea is connected to related ideas and then more specific ideas branch out from there. Information is organized hierarchically, meaning, ideas become more specific moving outwards from the center. For this assignment students create a mind map to represent their understanding of a topic.
Self-Assessment is the process of evaluating your own learning. Students can assess their understanding of a topic or main idea by analyzing the accuracy, complexity and completeness of their Mind Maps. The process of completing the mind map and also answering the Follow-Up Questions provided in this package is meant to guide students through the self-assessment process. This resource can also be used as a diagnostic assessment tool.
Package Includes:
- Step-By-Step Instructions
- Self-Assessment Notes
- Diagnostic Assessment Notes
- 36 Possible Topics
- Follow-Up Questions Page
- Student Example

Thank you so much for this resource! So helpful for my kiddos.
I used it with students who needed more visual help before being able to mindmap on a blank page.
I assumed I was purchasing a mind map "template".
Very Helpful!
Great special ed classroom resource.
