Engage your students in project-based learning!
Dinosaurs are a diverse group of Archosaur reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic era (252 – 66 million years ago). Even though dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years, we can learn many things from studying them. For this project, students study 10 different Dinosaurs (Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Velociraptor, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Allosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Mosasaurus, Spinosaurus, and Pterodactyl) and construct a 12-sided polyhedron called a Dodecahedron to showcase their learning. These can be hung from the ceiling and are beautiful on display.
For each pentagon, students are asked to answer the guiding questions and complete the challenges through conducting research. To communicate their learning, students write and draw pictures within each pentagon. After completing the 12 pentagons, students follow step-by-step instructions to construct their dodecahedrons.

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students are challenged to actively learn about a subject for an extended period of time. It is a form of active learning or inquiry-based learning. Project-Based Learning is in contrast to paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that presents established facts. Please be aware of what you are purchasing.

My students loved this! They completed it in groups and when they finished I hung them up as decor in the classroom.
I used this at the end of the year as part of our Dino Days in 5th grade. My students were so engaged! They were sad when they had to stop working for the end of the class and asked if they could take it home to work on. It was the perfect way for them to apply their research skills and at the same time be creative in how they presented what they learned about each dinosaur. One student wanted to keep working on it on the last day of school! I am so happy with this project and will use it every year!
My students were a bit young for this, I think. They liked drawing, but doing the research and writing facts was not their favorite. They also had a hard time constructing it. I would recommend it for older grades.
My students LOVED this!!! What a fun activity!!!
Using for my 6th grader during the "Corona Break" and she LOVES it. She's actively engaged, learning, and having fun all at once. She's so excited to continue with PBL, all because of this one amazing project.
