For tens of thousands of years, people have been drawing pictures on walls or other public surfaces. Graffiti is a form of artistic, social and political expression and is usually found in secluded areas, such as tunnels, bridges, and train yards. For this activity, students are asked to create their own graffiti and “tag” train cars with their unique design.
Can also be a fantastic opportunity to talk with your class about the concept of vandalism, and how graffiti can have a positive and negative effect on society. Interestingly, some cities around the world have designated certain walls as "legal walls", where artists can showcase their talents. Additionally, throughout the world, artists are commissioned by governments to paint murals on walls as a form of beautification.
The train engine, passenger car, and cargo car templates are included and can be cut out and linked together to form a train.
Students can create tags of their names, hobbies/interests, etc. They can use words, symbols, and/or pictures to express themselves. Hope you have fun!
